Social Work Practice
Our qualified and experienced social work staff will undertake all aspects of social work with children and families, and will attend meetings and court to present our findings.
Our assessment work includes:
- Core Assessments
- Parenting Capacity assessments
- Assessments for court
- Mother and baby assessments
- Attachment assessments
- Assessment of contact
- Assessment of sibling placements
- Assessment of children needing long term/permanent placements
- Assessment of prospective foster carer’s/ adopters.
- Assessment of appropriateness of placements
We are able to offer independent assessments. We provide bespoke assessments as required by the commissioning professional. We do not provide ‘off the shelf’ assessments as our experience informs us that each situation is unique to the particular service user.
We are happy to discuss any situation and work with the professionals to plan an appropriate response to the needs of the child.
Assessments can be carried out within the service user’s own home, within one of our centres on a daily basis, or in one of our flats.
A viability study will be required before a residential assessment in one of our flats will be considered. This study will include reading of relevant documents and meeting with parents. If the study is positive, a joint meeting will be held with the referrer and all relevant parties to plan the assessment, draw up a working agreement, set review dates etc.
Residential assessments will initially entail 24hr supervision by PPS, to ascertain what support/training is required. Reviews will be held at least monthly.
PPS work within the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families and Every Child Matters Guidance. We provide a service that safeguards and promotes the welfare of vulnerable children.
PPS actively supports and practices the principles that underpin the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families:
- Developmental Needs of Children
- Capacities of Parents and Caregivers to respond appropriately to those needs
- Impact of wider family and environmental factors on parenting capacity and children
- During the assessment and post-assessment process, PPS can provide ongoing support for:
- Finance management
- Education
- Routine
- Nutrition
- Health
- Links in the Community
- Parenting Skills
- Continued Outreach
- Housing
- The PPS Qualified Social Workers undertake all assessments of children in need. Our team of trained and dedicated Support Workers assist the Social Workers in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in need.
PPS Staff are continually updating their knowledge of the initiatives aimed at recognising and meeting the needs of vulnerable children through an ongoing process of in-house training, external training and supervision.
